Must have Benefits of Employees in the Philippines

Career Center

Here in the Philippines, there are companies wherein they don’t give any benefits. In the law, this is already an offense. In this article, I’ll be discussing about the must-have benefits for employees.

We have two kinds of employees: the contractual employees and regular employees. Contractual employees are basically those who just work in a short period of time. Contractual employees are usually employed from 3 months to 6 months. Regular employees from the name itself are employees who are already hired by the company in the long run.

Would there be differences when it comes to benefits for the two kinds of employees? Yes, there is.

Usually, construction companies hire contractual employees when there are buildings that are being built. This way, employees have limited benefits compared to regular employees. If you’re a contractual employee, you don’t have any sick leaves or vacation leaves. You also don’t have the ff: SSS (depends on the company), Philhealth, Tax, and Pagibig. You might receive your salary without any deductions but having the said benefits is really important especially in the long run. For the allowances, it depends on the company but normally, you will not receive any kind of allowances from food, transportation, and more.

For regular employees, they can receive all the benefits from the company. This will include sick leaves, vacation leaves, SSS, Philhealth, Tax, and Pagibig. In this case, you would be deducted a certain amount depending on your salary. You will not receive your salary in full because of the deductions but the said benefits will be an advantage for you in the future. As a Philhealth member, you are entitled to discount in Philhealth member hospitals. This is one of the best benefits given by the company. SSS members can request for loans. They also have the advantage of receiving pension depending on their contribution. For the pagibig, this can also be a savings for you or you can also loan a house by their “Pag-IBIG housing loan”

Being a regular employee would really be a big advantage for you in the long run. For contractual employees, it is also possible for you to apply as a voluntary member for both SSS and Pag-ibig to also receive benefits in the future. It might deduct some money from your salary but this will surely help you especially in your retirement.

If you are a regular employee but you are not receiving any benefits, you might want to practice your rights. Ask your employer about your benefits and also, always ask about your contributions because some companies are deducting a certain amount of money from your salary but they are just using it for their own benefit. Just a piece of advice, always ask SSS, Philhealth or Pag-ibig regarding your contributions.
